Amy R.I.P

Amy Winehouse. Gone. So Sad. As an Artist myself, I understand and deeply comprehend the emotions she must have felt over the years. She so often mentioned in the interviews I’ve seen over the last few days, she suffered not only from relationship heartbreak but suffered deeply from Artist’s insecurity.

Artist’s Insecurity is all about not feeling great about yourself on the inside even though a lot of people think you are Fabulous! It’s the ‘I’m not good enough’ train of thought. Many artists never admit it but I think this can be the very beginning of the end.

If you are dealing with this at the moment I highly recommend you read ‘The Artist’s Way’ by Julia Cameron and Mark Bryan. It’s been like a bible to me over the years. Artists and people from all walks of like often live in ‘another world’ in their heads and need to get grounded, to be able to just sit with themselves, be alone and feel happy and content without filling the void with an addiction. It is a majorly cool thing to learn to be calm and content within. And believe me you can learn it - a truth I know and have worked through myself.

So Amy - R.I.P - you left the world wonderful recordings and maybe your death will not be in vain? I hope Artist’s all around the world can look at themselves and ask the question: Am I going down a similar road as Amy?

On one quite ironic level, this could just be the Greatest gift she has left us all.

Lady Gaga is going to copy me?

Been there, Done that! I was just reading in the latest Rolling Stone magazine that Lady Gaga will reveal the name of her new album on NYE 2010 by tattooing it on herself. Yeah well I got there first...huh! Jokes and Jealousy aside (oh to have her album sales! lol!), I initially was going to get a tattoo with ‘Soul’ on it....just love the word on many levels - it’s many meanings and connotations. Anyway, I had just finished my album and thought why not tattoo the whole title? So I did! Megs from ‘Bondi Ink’ in Sydney did it for me. She’s done all mine. She is an Amazing Creative tattooist & does such Beautiful detailed work. Look her up...

Anyway, ‘Soul Tripping’ is a song about dealing with depression and not being afraid to sit with yourself and your emotions and not being afraid to reach out to someone when life gets too much and before you do something really destructive and regretful, like committing suicide. I burst out crying after I’d done the vocal session as I felt every word I sang. I truly believe we are all on a Soul Trip and we gotta keep true to ourselves throughout our travel on this earth. The more we do this the more we enjoy our lives - flow and feel calm and centred.

And Yes - Copy me Lady Gaga! - in all I’ve read or heard about you...you do your own thing and I soo admire that. Go Girl!!

Follow your Bliss

'Follow your Bliss' is tatoo’d on my lower back - not too many people know this - well they do now! 8 Tatts in Total! My favourite number. Where are the others?....mmm....to be revealed...

Anyway,

This quote 'Follow your Bliss' has always resonated strongly with me. Here's a little info on its origins.

Joseph Campbell, The late Great American mythologist, writer and lecturer said:

“If you follow your bliss, you put yourself on a kind of track that has been there all the while, waiting for you, and the life that you ought to be living is the one you are living. Wherever you are—if you are following your bliss, you are enjoying that refreshment, that life within you, all the time”

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Campbell

All I can say is, that for me, everytime I Follow my Bliss - that ‘inner feeling’ - things just seem to flow. Go against it and bad shit starts to happen....simple really.

'The Fighter Within'

So how did I come across the book 'The Fighter Within'?

And how has it changed my life?

In my last Blog I mentioned that an '11th hr gift' as I call it, arrived in my life at the Perfect time. I'd recorded my album 'Soul Tripping' and was doing the last stages, Photography, Artwork etc. and things just kept on getting delayed. F*****k! I was so frustrated and it was really beginning to get me down. Out of the blue I got a phone call from an uplifting guy who said his guitar teacher had recommended me as a teacher and could he come and have singing lessons with me. Rocky Warren, the author of 'The Fighter Within', came bouncing through my door the next week. We had a Great first lesson and at the end he mentioned he'd written a book and gave it to me that night.

I couldn't put it down! I started reading it that night, finished most of it by 3am and completely finished it the next day. It made me cry - in a good way - and laugh too! And changed my understanding in a way that made me flow with the delays...and create less delays.

I continue to teach Rocky and he continues to teach me through our chats before and after each lesson. His book I flick through daily and his audio book I have in my car! He really is a Great example of a person living his truth - he teaches by example - check him out at www.thefighterwithin.com
